Groups of outside radicals and agitators are exploiting the situation to pursue their own separate and violent agenda.
— Bill Barr, May 2020

The trope of the 'outside agitator' emerges in the wake of any effective uprising. It is a charge bemoaned by politicians and corporate media pundits in order to divide a movement and quell public support for the uprising. A ‘Hail Mary’ for the ruling class, a countermeasure for when all other sociocultural divisions fail, and unity occurs among the dominated subjects.

THE PERFORMERS:

Singer and sax player, Monty O'Blivion, comes to Los Angeles by way of the Phoenix scene where he founded local acts; Vined Eyes, the Video Nasties, and Manual Sex Drive, as well as performing as a regular member of The Limit Club from 2011-2017. In 2018, they moved to LA where they performed as a solo artist before forming The Outside Agitators. Monty is also a long-time volunteer at legendary all-ages DIY LA venue, The Smell. Bassist J.D. Tonnesen grew up in the high desert of California as a staple in the hardcore scene with their first band Subvert, later forming Stay Wild, as well as filling in on bass for other active bands. Like Monty and J.D., guitarist Casey Guldberg has been playing in bands since he was a teenager with acts like AxAxS, Insecure Alex, Secondaries, and Raptors. Sarah Levy, despite being new to the drums, is no stranger to performing. Sarah Levy is a founding member and front-person for Bay area-based emo/pop-punk band Pity Party, using their platform to advocate for social causes and community.

The mANIFESTO:

Art should be for the people. We reject the individualism of capitalist art. This does not mean we reject individuality, as in, what makes us unique, it means we reject the exceptionalism of the individual over the whole. We reject the rock god, the pop star, the careerist, the sad bastard that interprets the world through the lens of self-indulgence. We are a band of musicians who heed not just the call of music, but the pleading cries of humanity. We don’t want a music career, we want a revolution.

Explosive and genuine. They deliver the perfect combination of punk, blues & cabaret with a heaping helping of showmanship. I always look forward to new music from this act.
