MSD CALIFORNIA WEEKENDER - DAY TWO / PT 1 RECAP

Back with the Day 2 recap of our great weekend in So California in May. After getting a reasonable amount of sleep in Pasadena, we headed out for some lunch and to make our way to Orange County where we had two separate shows to play.

Saturday was the day of BabyFest in Santa Ana!  In celebration of Katey's pregnancy with our upcoming child, we decided to organize a fundraiser for non-profits we care about. The event was held at the LGBT Center On 4th and benefitted the center, as well as two rock camps where women musicians volunteer and mentor girls from 7-17 in music with the focus on empowerment, collaboration and a safe space to be themselves! Because we're an interstate family, living dually in California and Arizona, we wanted to show our support and promote both camps -- Rock 'n Roll Camp for Girls Orange County, and Girls Rock! Phoenix.

We had a plethora of fun activities, including guess the song, a zine station, and a DIY screen printing station, (which I loved, as the unofficial screen printer of MSD merchandise.) And our friend Jessica Drake brought some amazing vegan food & cupcakes that had everyone raving.

Nick Feratu and our friend, Casa, trying to "Name that Song" - all songs had the word "baby" in them.  Turned out to be quite a challenge for all who played!

Katey & I made a custom screen for the event, those who attended and donated to the organizations were able to screen print their own mini-tote or t-shirt at a supervised DIY station outside.

We played our songs and danced around on the patio overlooking downtown Santa Ana. YAAWN followed it up with a killer set. I had seen them play before and loved them - once again, they did not disappoint!

Candace Hansen and Katey worked incredibly hard to put this on, and we are so grateful to everyone who came and donated, especially those who didn't know us beforehand but came to support the organizations.  Thanks to our friends, old and new, and our family who came from out of state - we raised a good chunk of money to help out these important non-profits.

After we packed up, MSD took it down the street to a great local record shop, Beatnik Bandito. Will share more about that show in our next post! Stay tuned!
